harsh grade - Coal Creek

This photo illustrates the effects of heavy WB trains clawing their way up the steep grade, just outside of Denver. By the time the power for a westbound coal train reaches this crossing, the engines are at full throttle and the pressure on the railhead is making it look like the top of a heavily hammered chisel.
