B&M GP40-2 #313 William St. Buffalo NY5945 viewsIn the months preceding the Guilford purchase of the D&H, a pooled power arrangement saw B&M geeps and MEC power visiting the North Yard in Buffalo. Here, a trio of pooled geeps idles at the William Street end of the yard. The ex-DL&W bridge in the background was torn down not long after this photo was taken.

Cruel Fate1156 viewsAfter spending an afternoon in Napa with my family we began to head back, and found this off SR-12. The story of the NWP is one of conflict, irony and despair. In its modern times the NWP has been treated a stepchild in the communities that it once proudly served. The unit I'm standing on was one of many SD9s that are permanently stuck on this railroad. The NWP last run in the late 1990s at its full capacity and trailed off til 2000 when it was killed permanently. It's said to been reopened for a project called SMART, which has plans similar to NCTD's SPRINTER in southern California - that has yet to bear any fruit - http://nwprrhs.org/history.htm PNWTransitFreak

Two trains passing in the light1193 viewsBy a fortunate coincidence, an eastbound VIA LRC set headed into Toronto's Union Station passes behind Ontario Northland's outbound Northlander, led by FP7 #1987. The warm late afternoon light brings out the richness of the Northlander's ex-TEE trainset's colours.

N&W C30-7 #8021 entering Buffalo Junction Yard3014 viewsFollowing the closing of Bison Yard, N&W moved their operations to the smaller Buffalo Junction Yard, located west of D&H's SK Yard and east of Conrail's CP Draw. The Seneca Street bridge was an excellent spot to view the action as C30-7 8021 leads the way into the yard with cars picked up from the D&H. Buffalo's Central Terminal can be seen in the upper right corner.

A new lease on life for the D&H2641 viewsAfter being wed and then divorced by Guilford Transportation Inustries, D&H was operated successfully by NYS&W before being purchased by Canadian rail giant CP Rail. Six axle SD40s and SD40-2s became the norm on rails that had hosted second generation U-Boats, Geeps, and Alcos a decade earlier. Here, leased PLM SD40 #3004 leads leased GATX SD40 #2002 and a CP Rail SD40-2 under the highway overpass at Canaseraga NY, as BUEB makes its way down the 10 MPH jointed rail of track #2 between Portage and Hornell.
