N&W C30-7 #8021 entering Buffalo Junction Yard3114 viewsFollowing the closing of Bison Yard, N&W moved their operations to the smaller Buffalo Junction Yard, located west of D&H's SK Yard and east of Conrail's CP Draw. The Seneca Street bridge was an excellent spot to view the action as C30-7 8021 leads the way into the yard with cars picked up from the D&H. Buffalo's Central Terminal can be seen in the upper right corner.

High Green on Sandpatch3012 viewsClouds of blue diesel exhaust testify to the effort involved in moving tonnage up Sandpatch grade. A mixed quartet of second generation geeps, representing all three Chessie System component roads, shatters the morning stillness of nearby Meyersdale PA as they struggle relentlessly toward the summit. The Clear signal indication is certainly a welcome sight to the crew.

A splash of fall colour874 viewsA half dozen 6-axle EMDs in five different paint schemes roar through the small town of Canisteo NY with a westbound stack train. WM GP40 #3796 North Tonawanda NY9684 viewsRailfans delight in the unexpected. Today's westbound CG-41 brought a rare treat as red and white Western Maryland GP40 #3796 rounds the curve above Goundry St in North Tonawanda en route to Niagara Yard. Sharp eyes will notice the improvised number board on the right side of the cab.

UPRR 2-10-2 #55003923 viewsEngineer for Union Pacific, Archie A. Searle in the cab of U.P. 5500
Union Pacific 5500 is a 2-10-2 - UP 5500 was part of a final group of Class TTT-6 15 2-10-2s built by Baldwin and delivered to the LA-SL(Los Angelas-Salt Lake railroad) and given road numbers 5500 through 5514 in 1923.
Between 1917 and 1924, the Union Pacific Railroad purchased 144 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" types, divided into classes TTT-1 through TTT-7. The UPRR did not call them "Santa Fe" types. They instead gave them the "TTT" class name(Two-Ten-Two). American Locomotive Company (ALCO) built 18, Baldwin Locomotive Works built 89 and Lima Locomotive Works built 37. Despite the divided classes, all of the UP 2-10-2s had the same cylinder dimensions, driving wheel diameter and boiler pressure. After 26 years in service, the UP 5500 was 1 of 4 2-10-2's retired in 1949.

D&H GP39-2 #385 William St Buffalo NY1023 viewsLed by NYSW B40-8 #4024 and GATX GP40 #3705, renumbered D&H GP39-2 #385, seen approaching William St, still wears Guilford paint, though the large 'G' on the long hood has been blacked out. Following CP Rail's subsequent purchase of the D&H, 4-axle motive power would become increasingly rare on the Southern Tier Line.
