An ex-D&H GP39-2 in fresh Guilford paint is sandwiched by a pair of blue B&M GP40-2s on a sunny October day as they hustle east through bucolic Dale NY after climbing the torturous hill at Attica. The arrival of double-stack container trains to both D&H and host Conrail's operating scheme more than doubled the number of daily trains on the ex-EL Southern Tier Line for a period of several years while Conrail tackled clearance problems on the Water Level Route.
