U.P.'s Burnham Shops(yard) - Denver6 viewsU.P.'s Burnham Shops(southern half - looking south)- June 17, 2008 Now a U.P. maintenance facility, this yard and shops were once the headquarters of D&RGW's Mechanical Department in Denver. It was built in 1870's, and serviced narrow gauge equipment. The Burnham Shops eventually became known as one of the best in the country.

This U.P. shop continues to do everything from full maintenance to complete rebuilds and modifications of their locomotives. The tracks on the right lead to the turntable, load-testing, and the shops. The tracks below are generally used as storage for retired equipment.

MEC U25B #228 + MEC (Guilford) U23B #2810 viewsThe Guilford era on the D&H dawned with high hopes and a bright splash of color, as exemplified by MEC U25B #228 and freshly repainted ex-D&H U23B #281, idling at the William St end of the North Yard in Buffalo NY. The units had apparently been used as pushers on a heavy westbound movement over Attica Hill.

MEC U25B #228 William St Buffalo NY0 viewsUnits from all three of Guilford's major components are visible in this shot, with a freshly painted ex-D&H U23B thrown in for good measure. The star of the show is matronly MEC U25B #228, here basking in the summer sun. I hope she's not allergic to milkweed pollen.
