Hughson Sunday Nights117 viewsThe peacefulness of Hughson, California is shattered for less than 40 second while a northbound Amtrak California San Joaquin train 718. CDTX 2051, whose earned the nickname 'Sluggo', on account of its slow loading times, is pulling this trainset at a brisk 79mph rushing northward to Oakland at the other end of this corridor.
Present here are two ghosts from the past. Two old Santa Fe Searchlight signals guard this train and grants it safe passage from one signal block to another. These signals are becoming few and far in between as the BNSF Railway is replacing them with modern 'Tri-Lights'.
Santa Fe Avenue parallels its namesake railroad from Escalon to Madera and is one of the many rout

D&H Sea-Land stack train at Dale NY116 viewsAn ex-D&H GP39-2 in fresh Guilford paint is sandwiched by a pair of blue B&M GP40-2s on a sunny October day as they hustle east through bucolic Dale NY after climbing the torturous hill at Attica. The arrival of double-stack container trains to both D&H and host Conrail's operating scheme more than doubled the number of daily trains on the ex-EL Southern Tier Line for a period of several years while Conrail tackled clearance problems on the Water Level Route.

B&M GP40-2 #313 William St. Buffalo NY114 viewsIn the months preceding the Guilford purchase of the D&H, a pooled power arrangement saw B&M geeps and MEC power visiting the North Yard in Buffalo. Here, a trio of pooled geeps idles at the William Street end of the yard. The ex-DL&W bridge in the background was torn down not long after this photo was taken.

N&W C30-7 #8021 entering Buffalo Junction Yard111 viewsFollowing the closing of Bison Yard, N&W moved their operations to the smaller Buffalo Junction Yard, located west of D&H's SK Yard and east of Conrail's CP Draw. The Seneca Street bridge was an excellent spot to view the action as C30-7 8021 leads the way into the yard with cars picked up from the D&H. Buffalo's Central Terminal can be seen in the upper right corner.
