UPRR 2-10-2 #550071 viewsEngineer for Union Pacific, Archie A. Searle in the cab of U.P. 5500
Union Pacific 5500 is a 2-10-2 - UP 5500 was part of a final group of Class TTT-6 15 2-10-2s built by Baldwin and delivered to the LA-SL(Los Angelas-Salt Lake railroad) and given road numbers 5500 through 5514 in 1923.
Between 1917 and 1924, the Union Pacific Railroad purchased 144 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" types, divided into classes TTT-1 through TTT-7. The UPRR did not call them "Santa Fe" types. They instead gave them the "TTT" class name(Two-Ten-Two). American Locomotive Company (ALCO) built 18, Baldwin Locomotive Works built 89 and Lima Locomotive Works built 37. Despite the divided classes, all of the UP 2-10-2s had the same cylinder dimensions, driving wheel diameter and boiler pressure. After 26 years in service, the UP 5500 was 1 of 4 2-10-2's retired in 1949.

U.P.'s Burnham Shops yard - Denver58 viewsU.P.'s Burnham Shops yard (northern half, looking north from the 8th street bridge)These locomotives, most having been in revenue service for many years, are now in storage. The 20+ SD9043AC's, however, have been pulled from service indefinitely. A maintenance hog from the start, these lower HP units, aren't moving anything anymore. RI 900
