This train is leaving the TransCon to join the south bound tracks formerly owned by the Frisco and MKT which runs south through Kansas and on to Texas. This is a connector line that was rebuilt by BNSF soon after the merger with the ATSF to allow trains originating in the old ATSF yard in Kansas City to join the old Frisco line running south out of Kansas City.gdavies

Today's westbound CG-41 brought a rare treat as red and white Western Maryland GP40 #3796 rounds the curve above Goundry St in North Tonawanda en route to Niagara Yard. CSX GP40-2 #6250 CP EL-3 Tonawanda NY22 viewsAs Toronto to Buffalo freight CPBU heads east along the Niagara Branch en route to Conrail's Frontier Yard, Westbound CSX freight CG-41 arrives at CP EL-3 on its way to Niagara Yard near Suspension Bridge in Niagara Falls. The diverging track in the foreground is the former Lehigh Valley connecting track, which now serves as an industrial spur.

A new lease on life for the D&H22 viewsAfter being wed and then divorced by Guilford Transportation Inustries, D&H was operated successfully by NYS&W before being purchased by Canadian rail giant CP Rail. Six axle SD40s and SD40-2s became the norm on rails that had hosted second generation U-Boats, Geeps, and Alcos a decade earlier. Here, leased PLM SD40 #3004 leads leased GATX SD40 #2002 and a CP Rail SD40-2 under the highway overpass at Canaseraga NY, as BUEB makes its way down the 10 MPH jointed rail of track #2 between Portage and Hornell.

NYSW SD45 #3622 Alden NY22 viewsWestbound D&H EBBU is a rainbow of color with five different attractive paint schemes on a beautiful late summer day. The train is led by freshly repainted ex-BN SD45 #3622, followed by ex-Frisco SD45 #6695, still in Cascade Green, a D&H Alco C424M, and two CSX units, one still attired in Chessie System colors. NYS&W's aggressive marketing, coupled with friendly connections with CSX, NS, and the newly formed B&P would breath new life into the Guilford castoff.
