CP Empress #2816655 viewsThe Canadian Pacific #2816 & Empress' was refitted a number of years ago as a heritage project. The steamer is still in service to some degree for private charters and the odd road trip open to the public. The 'Empress' chugged past my back yard on its way to the Crowsnest Pass of The Rocky Mountains, crossing the continental divide into Alberta. Although the 'Empress' was in the lead of the consist, additional power was provided by an F7a unit to assist with the long climb aheadRoadMaster259

BNSF WB Feed Train574 viewsBNSF 5101, CP 9514 and BNSF 7125 on a west bound loaded feed train.
The cars are standard rotary gon coal cars with a retractable cover over the load.
I believe this train is headed to Texas with either chicken feed or poultry feed. The CP 9514 was running off miles on the BNSF and had been in the area for several weeks.gdavies

UPRR 2-10-2 #55001274 viewsEngineer for Union Pacific, Archie A. Searle in the cab of U.P. 5500
Union Pacific 5500 is a 2-10-2 - UP 5500 was part of a final group of Class TTT-6 15 2-10-2s built by Baldwin and delivered to the LA-SL(Los Angelas-Salt Lake railroad) and given road numbers 5500 through 5514 in 1923.
Between 1917 and 1924, the Union Pacific Railroad purchased 144 2-10-2 "Santa Fe" types, divided into classes TTT-1 through TTT-7. The UPRR did not call them "Santa Fe" types. They instead gave them the "TTT" class name(Two-Ten-Two). American Locomotive Company (ALCO) built 18, Baldwin Locomotive Works built 89 and Lima Locomotive Works built 37. Despite the divided classes, all of the UP 2-10-2s had the same cylinder dimensions, driving wheel diameter and boiler pressure. After 26 years in service, the UP 5500 was 1 of 4 2-10-2's retired in 1949.

D&H GP39-2 #385 William St Buffalo NY580 viewsLed by NYSW B40-8 #4024 and GATX GP40 #3705, renumbered D&H GP39-2 #385, seen approaching William St, still wears Guilford paint, though the large 'G' on the long hood has been blacked out. Following CP Rail's subsequent purchase of the D&H, 4-axle motive power would become increasingly rare on the Southern Tier Line.
