U.P.'s Burnham Shops(yard) - Denver28 viewsU.P.'s Burnham Shops(southern half - looking south)- June 17, 2008 Now a U.P. maintenance facility, this yard and shops were once the headquarters of D&RGW's Mechanical Department in Denver. It was built in 1870's, and serviced narrow gauge equipment. The Burnham Shops eventually became known as one of the best in the country.
This U.P. shop continues to do everything from full maintenance to complete rebuilds and modifications of their locomotives. The tracks on the right lead to the turntable, load-testing, and the shops. The tracks below are generally used as storage for retired equipment.RI 900Apr 28, 2024

The 20+ SD9043AC's, however, have been pulled from service indefinitely. A maintenance hog from the start, these lower HP units, aren't moving anything anymore. RI 900Apr 28, 2024
